Directory / Contacts

Because Unison Server™ incorporates a single company directory for all communication services, it makes IT administration more convenient and secure:

  • No need to maintain and synchronize multiple separate lists of access rights across different servers
  • Faster provisioning, because all directory information is consolidated in one place, within Unison Server
  • Simpler administration, using Unison Control Panel – add or delete users instantly, including all company communication and access rights
  • More secure, with a single LDAP directory server and a lower attack surface – and no need to use Active Directory®

To maintain this single company directory, Unison incorporates the Unison Directory Server. This server manages all aspects of authentication and authorization of Unison Desktop™ client users. It also acts as a configuration server, providing Unison Desktop clients with the information necessary for establishing the connection with all other Unison servers.

Upon a request from the Mail Transfer Agent, it supplies the e-mail routing information, translating mailing list data and mailbox aliases into exact e-mail addresses.

The Directory Server communicates with Unison Desktop client and other Unison servers using LDAP. Encrypted TLS/SSL-based communications with the client are also supported.

When serving its clients’ requests, the Directory Server stores and retrieves the data from the Unison database.
