E-mail and e-mail security

Unison includes a high-performance email server built in. With advanced features like server-side mail rules and blocked and allowed senders, it replaces your current Exchange or other email server and integrates email with your other Unison communications.

The following server components support e-mail in Unison:

Mail Transfer Agent

The Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) is responsible for routing and delivering e-mail. The Unison MTA uses SMTP for interacting with the Unison Desktop client (for sending e-mail from the client) and other MTAs in external domains.

The Unison MTA does not interact with users’ mailboxes directly. When ready to deliver an e-mail message, it directs the Unison mail server to place the message into the appropriate mailbox(es).

The MTA communicates with the mail server using LMTP and acts as an LMTP client for the mail server.
